Part 3 of 3 – The An Old Path to a New Day Series
Are you living in victory? Are you tackling all of the problem areas that need work? Are you investing in your faith rather than wasting your life? Truthfully, we are probably winning more than we think we are. We tend to focus upon what we failed to accomplish rather than rejoice in any steps we made forward.
Romans 8:37 (NLT) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, Who loved us.
It is time that we believe what God says, not what our circumstances declare. We are not defined by our past. We are defined by Christ’s victory and God’s Plan. God does not evaluate us based upon our past but rather our future. Recognize and live in the victory that is yours IN Christ.
Jesus Was Victorious Over Expectations
The Religious are all About Expectations
Matthew 5:20 (NLT) “But I warn you—unless your righteousness is better than the righteousness of the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven!
By all accounts, the Pharisees appeared to be a very righteous group of men. They made their religious practices and expectations very known to others and lived for the opinion of others. Further, they insisted that Jesus, the true Messiah, meet their expectations. But Jesus was not bound by those expectations because He lived only for the expectations of His Father.
John 12:49 (NLT) I don’t speak on My own authority. The Father Who sent Me has commanded Me what to say and how to say it.
To Live in Victory Over EXPECTATIONS, We Must Live for an Audience of One.
There will always be plenty of people to judge you. No matter what you do or say, there is no way to please all of the people in your life all of the time. But you can live a worthy life before God; it just requires Christ’s power in Christ’s victory. So live for an audience of one, just as Jesus did.
Hebrews 4:14-16 (NLT) So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. 15 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for He faced all of the same testings we do, yet He did not sin. 16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Jesus Was Victorious Over Sin
SIN, SINS, Sinless, and Sinning Less
SIN is a problem. It’s why the world is broken. It’s why horrible things happen in the world, and worst of all, It’s why people die. But SINS are MY problem. The mistreatment of Christians in certain countries is awful. But worse is taking our loved ones for granted. Negligence of the homeless, the mentally ill, and the invisible in general, is a terrible thing. However, neglect to listen and lead our own children is far worse.
Philippians 3:7-9 (NLT) I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. 8 Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ 9 and become one with Him…
To Live in Victory Over SIN, We Must Rely upon Christ’s Righteousness and Holy Spirit’s Power
Salvation is a free gift that will cost you every worthless thing. There is so much that we think is very important today that one day we will not understand why it held so much value. The value in this life is the formation of faith. May our faith grow to the point that we know Jesus better than ourselves and that we no longer try to avoid what is wrong. Rather, we boldly do what is exactly right by faith.
Romans 5:17 (NLT) For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and His gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.
Jesus Was Victorious Over Death
Jesus’ Life was a War Against Death
Jesus came up against death every day and in every way. He brought life into every situation He encountered. That was one of the reasons for the wedding at Cana, where He turned water into wine. Jesus resurrected people from the dead for the same reason. What an insult against the enemy of death!
John 7:38 (NLT) “Anyone who believes in Me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from His heart.’”
To Live in Victory Over DEATH, We Must Rely Upon Christ’s Life in Us
We are the life-givers and the life-bringers. We should be so alive that we have plenty to give away. Our spirit, by its connection with God’s Spirit, should change the atmosphere of every room we enter.
You don’t need to try harder and this isn’t about “faking it ‘til you make it”. This is a “Christ in me” deal. You simply need to learn how to rest in everything that Jesus has already done. Stop stressing and start resting! Stop trying to figure it out, or trying to get it. Believe God, and let it out!
