Lamentations 3:22-26 (NET)

22 The LORD’s loyal kindness never ceases; his compassions never end.

23 They are fresh every morning; your faithfulness is abundant!

24 “My portion is the LORD,” I have said to myself, so I will put my hope in him.

25 The LORD is good to those who trust in him, to the one who seeks him.

26 It is good to wait patiently for deliverance from the LORD.

We can’t go back to the way things were.  Haven’t you heard that heartbroken declaration a few times? “I just want to go back to the way things were.” But you can’t. Things have been said that can’t be unsaid. Events have transpired that can’t be undone. We can only go forward. BUT.. that is wonderful!

These wonderful verses above come from the pen of a man who had seen everything destroyed. The book in the Bible that this comes from is a book of dirges and grief. He had watched his beloved nation crumble under the assault of an evil empire. It was over.  And, he was grieving. In fact, God was grieving. That is why it is in the Bible.

But these scriptures are so full of hope. God is Good, even when, especially when God’s justice must prevail. Because His Justice is always filled with mercy. God is so merciful.

Jeremiah, the writer, encourages us to trust God and to seek God. There among the rubble and even the death that filled the city of Jerusalem, Jeremiah looked for God. As Jeremiah walked its ruins, he waited for God. And that is the way forward, no matter what you are going through right now.

Begin today to look for God in the moments you experience. See his hand at work in your day. Look for His touch in all of your interactions.

God hasn’t quit being God. God will not fail. In fact, wonderful things are happening all around you this very day. The Glory and Goodness of God are invading our world all around you.

No, you can’t go back. But, do you want to? Why wander a dingy past when there is fresh mercy and renewed strength right in front of you.

This day looks just like a day that the Lord has made. Today is going to be a great day!
