How Do We Beat The Echo Chamber of Destructive Thoughts In Our Minds?

Most of us live our lives with a great deal of “background” noise. It is the noise we use to drown out the “broken record” of failures and accusations of our past. But, that noise has lessened with the current shelter in place policies. We have more time with our thoughts and that may not be good. That may create a void that a lot of junk from our past could fill. What can we do?

2 Peter 1:4 (NLT) And because of His glory and excellence, He has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share His divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

God Is Inviting You Out of all that noise.  He “invited” the nation of Israel OUT OF Egypt and He invites you out of your own echo chamber.  And, even though it sounds wonderful, it’s not easy. When Israel packed their things and left town, they were excited. But, they weren’t very excited in the wilderness. They got into a great deal of complaining out there in the sun. But, God wasn’t just inviting them OUT OF. He was also inviting them INTO!

God Is Inviting You INTO! God wants you to live in victory. He expects you to enjoy a victory that He will acquire for you. And, He wants you to come home. He is preparing a real and permanent home for you.  Today, we need to embrace a couple of things. We could leave our broken records behind and enjoy what God has graciously provided. Let’s look at that verse again.

Remember The Jesus That’s In You

2 Peter 1:4 (NLT) And because of His glory and excellence, He has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share His divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

Every believer has been enabled to share in God’s Divine Nature. Christians are INHABITED by God. BOOM!!! There is not a more wonderful or more fantastic idea than that. That is the BIGGEST idea of all. That God would choose to inhabit people.

The Creator of the universe, the Star Breather, the Galaxy Speaker lives in you. He is the one who is Beloved of God and brings GREAT joy to Him. This same Jesus who was born to angel song and the bent knees of kings and scholars is yours. God is so pleased with Jesus and He is pleased with you, too, because of Him.

We simply cannot comprehend the Character and Heart of God that we possess. The wonder that would be ours if we could but remember that the Resurrected Christ lives in us. The Healer and Funeral Wrecker made His residence in our being. The one who not even Death could hold down. The Ultimate Champion of All Champions and King of all kings lives IN YOU.

And, He is our Escape. He is our way out of the echo chamber and into awesome HOPE!

Acts 4:12 (NLT) There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”

Respond To The Jesus That’s In You

2 Peter 1:5, 8-9 (NLT) In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises… 8 The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But those who fail to develop in this way are shortsighted or blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins.

We Are Building Something. 1  Corinthians 3:11-14 teaches us that we are building upon Christ’s foundation. 1 Peter 2:4-12 reveals that we are built into a temple. The point is that we are here to grow. We have been enabled to get BETTER, and STRONGER in far more significant ways.  We also learn that there are construction materials for our future. They are Faith, Purity, Knowledge of God, Self-Control, Endurance, Godliness or reverence, brotherly love, and Love for all. It shouldn’t take very much reflection to reveal that these are simply the character traits of Jesus.

2 Peter 1:10 (NLT) So, dear brothers and sisters, work hard…

Work Hard At Resting And Trusting. You see, the hard work isn’t trying to please God. Surely, God expects these things. Christians who have no interest in these character gifts are at best robbing themselves (1 Cor 3). At worst, they are not Christians. BUT, these character gifts or fruits, (Galatians 5:22-23) are not achieved by human effort. They are received by FAITH.

The Hard Work is relying upon Christ. The hard work is resting in what God has done and has made available. It is refusing to use human means to accomplish God’s Work. It is the hard work of believing God. Because this is who you are, this is your character. You are Faithful and Pure. You are a Knower OF and are Known BY God. Each of us is Infinitely Strong but under control. We are Tough, Unbreakable, a band of brothers, and people of real compassion for all. We know this is who we are, but that’s who Jesus is. And, He is in us. This life is learning to display the shared nature of God that is within us! And, God has a wonderful purpose in this. He intends to show us off.

The Parade of Champions

2 Peter 1:10-11 (NLT) So, dear brothers and sisters, work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen. Do these things, and you will never fall away. 11 Then God will give you a grand entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

You are a Parade of Champions. Every one of you is an overcomer. Each of us is a gut punch to our Enemy, the Accuser, the Liar, and the Murderer.  He accuses you to God and to yourself every chance He gets. And one day, we’ll all march home a mighty victorious army. A Parade of the Biggest, Baddest, and Best Champions eternity has ever known.
